Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-10-24
1. Who you are contracting with
ShortsMate (쇼츠메이트, the “Service”, at shortsmate.co.kr) is provided by Peak Company (피크컴퍼니), a sole proprietorship (개인사업자) registered in the Republic of Korea, represented by Bae Soyun, business registration no. 214-19-20761, Gyeonggi-do Suwon-si Gwonseon-gu Geumgok-ro 140beon-gil 73, 910-dong 1801-ho, 16387, Republic of Korea (“Peak Company”, “we”, “us”). These Terms are a contract between you and Peak Company. Orders paid in US dollars or Japanese yen are sold through our reseller Paddle (see section 9); Peak Company still provides the Service itself.
By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live, or use the Service with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you use the Service for a company or other organisation, you accept these Terms on its behalf.
2. What the Service does
You give the Service a YouTube link or upload a video file. Our software and AI models watch the video, pick the moments worth clipping, and turn them into vertical videos (“shorts”) of up to 60 seconds, with titles and captions in the language you choose (Korean, Japanese or English). Depending on your pass, the Service can also translate titles, captions and comment cards, show real viewer comments from the original YouTube video, and add AI narration. You can review and edit the results and download them, along with caption files (SRT) on paid passes. The signed-in dashboard is currently in Korean.
3. Your account
You sign in with a Google or Kakao account. Keep that account secure: you are responsible for activity under your ShortsMate account. One person may hold one account; creating extra accounts to get more free minutes or referral rewards is not allowed. You can delete your account at any time from the account page.
4. Your videos and your rights (media editing)
- Only submit what you have the right to use. You must own every video, link and other material you submit (“Inputs”), or have all the permissions needed to copy, edit, translate and publish it, including from the people who appear in it. This applies equally to YouTube links and to uploaded files. By submitting an Input you confirm that you have these rights.
- Your content stays yours. We do not claim ownership of your Inputs or of the shorts, titles, captions and other results made from them (“Outputs”). Any intellectual property in them stays with you or with the original rights holders.
- The permission you give us. You give Peak Company a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, copy, process, transcribe, translate and edit your Inputs and Outputs only to provide the Service to you (and to keep the records the law requires).
- What you publish is your responsibility. You are responsible for how you use and where you post Outputs, and for following the rules of the platforms you post them on (for example YouTube’s and TikTok’s). Clipping someone else’s video without permission can infringe copyright.
- Retention. We delete the source video after the job is done. Editable copies and Outputs are deleted automatically 7 days after they are made for free-trial jobs and 30 days after for paid jobs; editing does not extend this. Download what you need within that time.
5. AI features (generative AI)
- The Service uses AI models to choose scenes, score them and explain why, write titles and captions, fix speech-recognition errors, translate, match comments and write and voice narration lines. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, out of context, badly translated or inappropriate, and the same Input can give different results.
- We do not guarantee that Outputs are accurate, original, fit for any purpose or free of third-party rights. Check every Output before you publish it.
- You are responsible for your Inputs, for the options and text you give the Service, and for how you use Outputs. Do not present Outputs in a way that misleads people, for example as statements a real person did not make, and do not use AI narration to impersonate someone.
- Do not use the AI features to create content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, violent or extremist, that targets minors, or that violates someone’s privacy or publicity rights.
6. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service, or help anyone else use it, to:
- break any law, or process illegally recorded footage (including intimate images shared without consent) or any sexual content involving minors;
- infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- commit fraud, send spam, mass-produce misleading content, or abuse the free trial, referral rewards or payment and refund processes (for example with duplicate or fake accounts, or stolen payment methods);
- interfere with the security or operation of the Service: probing or bypassing access controls, uploading malware, overloading our systems, or reaching the Service through bots, scrapers or other automated means other than the features we offer;
- scrape, copy or resell the Service, its templates or its software, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows;
- share your account or resell access to it.
We may refuse a job, remove Outputs, or restrict or close accounts that break these rules (see section 12).
7. Copyright complaints and takedown
If you believe content processed or stored through ShortsMate infringes your copyright or other rights, email shortsmate88@gmail.com with the subject “Copyright complaint” and include: your name and contact details; the work you own and proof or a description of your rights; the link, job or content you object to; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; and a statement that the information is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them.
When we receive a complete complaint we review it promptly, and where it is well founded we remove or disable the content and tell the user concerned, who may reply with a counter-notice. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.Content that someone has already published on another platform (for example YouTube) must also be reported to that platform, since we cannot remove it there.
8. Minutes, passes and the free trial
- Paid products are 30-day passes, not subscriptions. They never renew automatically. Each pass contains a number of minutes, shown on the pricing page.
- Each minute of source video you submit uses one minute (partial minutes round up). If you select a part of the video, only that part counts. Minutes used by a job that fails come back automatically. Editing or re-rendering a short does not use minutes.
- Minutes left on a pass expire 30 days after you bought it. Buying another pass adds its minutes and extends all your valid passes to 30 days from the new purchase; if the new purchase is refunded, that extension is cancelled.
- New accounts get 30 free minutes once. Some features are not included in the free trial.
- Referral rewards: if someone signs up through your referral link and makes their first payment, both of you receive bonus minutes after 7 days (amounts and timing may change). If that first payment is refunded, both rewards are cancelled. We recover rewards obtained through self-referral, duplicate accounts or other abuse.
9. Prices, payment and Merchant of Record
Orders in US dollars (USD) or Japanese yen (JPY): Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. This applies to orders paid in USD or JPY through Paddle’s checkout. Those purchases are also governed by Paddle’s Buyer Terms, and Paddle may add VAT, GST or sales tax at checkout depending on your country.
Orders in Korean won (KRW): Orders paid in KRW on our Korean site are processed by Toss Payments, and Peak Company is the merchant. KRW prices include Korean VAT.
Prices and the minutes in each pass are shown on the pricing pages at the time you buy. We may change prices for future purchases; this never changes a pass you have already bought. We do not store card numbers; the payment provider handles them.
10. Refunds
Refunds follow our Refund Policy. In short: for USD and JPY orders through Paddle, ask within 14 days of purchase and we refund the unused share pro rata (all of it if you used no minutes).
11. Our intellectual property
The Service, its software, AI prompts and pipelines, templates, design, logos and the ShortsMate name belong to Peak Company or its licensors and are protected by law. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the Service as offered; they give you no other rights in it. Templates and visual elements we add to your Outputs may be used as part of those Outputs.
12. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account, refuse jobs or remove content, with notice where reasonably possible, if you break these Terms or the law, if we receive a well-founded rights complaint, for repeat infringement, for fraud or abuse of payments, refunds, the free trial or referrals, or where required to protect the Service, other users or third parties. If we close your account for reasons that are not your fault, we refund the unused share of your paid passes pro rata. When an account is closed, its data is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy.
13. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep the Service running, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free. Jobs can be delayed in busy periods, and the Service may be unavailable during maintenance or because of problems with our providers or with YouTube. We may add, change or remove features. A YouTube video may become impossible to process if it is deleted, made private or blocked.
14. YouTube and TikTok uploads
Where the upload feature is available, it uses YouTube API Services and the TikTok API. By using it you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and the Google Privacy Policy applies to information Google processes. Only the videos you choose and upload (or schedule) go to the account you connect.
15. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Apart from what these Terms expressly promise, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, Peak Company is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost revenue or channel penalties, or for loss caused by your Inputs, by Outputs you publish, or by third-party platforms; and our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer under the laws of your country.
You agree to cover Peak Company’s losses from third-party claims caused by your Inputs or by Outputs you publish in breach of these Terms, to the extent the law allows.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with its effective date and, for changes that matter to you, tell you on the site or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new Terms apply.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes go to the competent court under the Korean Civil Procedure Act. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of mandatory laws of the country where you live.
The Korean-language 이용약관 applies to the Korean site and KRW orders. If the two versions differ on a USD or JPY order, this English version applies.
